Budgeting & Grant Writing

After crafting an initial project proposal for CMU Drama faculty, I applied for and was awarded a BXA Grant to fund my project, practicing budgeting and grant writing.

Sourcing Materials

I collaborated with the Purnell Center for the Arts facilities team, the CMU Drama Prop Shop, and TartanInk to plan the space and materials needed for  project execution. I also managed onsite setup and breakdown.

I attended all design meetings to advise the creative team on grounding our 60s-80s film photography concept in Sarah Ruhl's text. I continued advising throughout the rehearsal process as well.

Casting

I collaborated with the director on drafting character descriptions, reviewing audition materials, and submitting rankings to faculty for casting.

Rehearsals

First Rehearsal Presentation & Activity

I presented an overview of research resources, content disclosures, and themes on day one.
I then led the actors through an activity that asked them to work together to create narratives from old, anonymous photographs, followed by group reflection on how myths are created and memories are recorded.

Play Charting

Inspired by Play On Shakespeare method

While conducting table work, each member of the rehearsal room tracked a key element from the script. We mapped the play and used the chart to guide discussions.

Dramaturgy Site

I identified key research targets, assessed cast/creative team needs, and created a digital space for creative inspiration.

Program Note

I wrote a piece to synthesize important myth context, production concept, and audience engagement goals.
